Recessed Lights
As with all penetrations to the attic, recessed lights, or cans,
should be air sealed. Even IC rated cans leak a lot of air, because
cellulose or fiberglass insulation is not an air barrier.
We have a method for sealing cans in cathedral ceilings where no
attic access is available. Though a tedious project, if the cans project
beyond the building envelope, it is very worthwhile to complete. If
you don't know if your recessed can lights are within the thermal
boundary of the building envelope, we can tell with our infrared camera.
